Local Ballydehob area musician Mairead Carey will tutor a workshop on Saturday, April 5th especially for younger musicians at this years Ballydehob Traditional Music Festival. This workshop is geared towards flute or whistle who would like to learn some common session tunes that are most commonly played in sessions.
Mairéad is currently a second year Arts with Music student in UCC. She is primarily a flute and fiddle player, but is also proficient on the tin whistle, piano and traditional singing. She began competing in Fleadhanna at a young age and has won numerous solo County, Munster and All Ireland prizes across all age categories.
She was awarded both an Entrance Scholarship and a Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann Scholarship by UCC. Mairéad has an extensive range of experience in performing on television and radio. She was a finalist in the Bonn Óir Seán Ó Riada Flute and Tin Whistle competition 2012, which was broadcast live on Raidio na Gaeltachta.
